While Pete Townshend was not the best singer in The Who, there’s no denying that his vocal efforts were real ear worms, as evidenced by my humming the tune to “Goin’ Mobile” in my head as I type this post about – of all things- using the web from your phone or a tablet device to find local businesses.
Of course, great guitarist that he is, Pete can’t answer basic questions that pop into your head while roaming around town. What’s for dinner? Want to see a movie? Where can I find a plumber? A hotel? Fresh fish? A lawyer? Where’s the closest ice cream shop? You can find everything you need along Penobscot Bay and the Camden Hills via your phone or other mobile device. The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber’s website (at either www.mainedreamvacation.com or www.penbaychamber.com) is now available in a new version optimized for viewing and navigation on mobile devices.
The mobile version of the site uses the same powerful database as the full site to provide users with the information they are looking for, be it a specific member or members in a given business category. The site will return search results based on geographic proximity (giving users the businesses closest to them first) and by user selected category. The site also makes it easy for travelers to locate lodging, dining, or other businesses and to dial or email them from their mobile phone, shortening the time between search and satisfaction.
The mobile site is a great tool for both locals and visitors alike, serving as a virtual Chamber guide, map, business locator, event calendar and phone book whether one is looking for a hardware store or a hotel (or any other type of business, service, dining option, activity, and more). In coming months the Chamber will be adding even more functionality and search options to ensure that users are able to find what they need ever more quickly and easily.
